Churches in Ashby-de-la-Zouch Parish

Ashby de la Zouch: St. Helen's, Ashby de la Zouch

Lower Church Street Ashby de la Zouch Leicester
(01530) 564372
http://sthelensashby.net/groups/267377/st_helens_church.aspx?redirected=1

The ancient and attractive parish church of St Helen's - set at the heart of the delightful market town of Ashby de la Zouch, is a place to draw you in! You may wish to explore its wonderful history and its splendid, and somewhat quirky, interior (excellent 'Church Guides' are available near the entrance), or to sit quietly to rest and reflect, or to join us at services throughout the week and at our many fellowship and community events. The church is open to all every day from 9am until 5pm.

St Helen's is run by a team of ordained clergy and talented volunteers - dedicated to our church motto: ‘Loving God, loving others, loving the world'. We seek to take what Jesus said seriously, and we want others to know God's love for them. He loves us in spite of our failings! No wonder our mission is not only to nurture (or - build up) those who follow Him, but also to bring back those who once knew God, as well as to share the good news with those who have never known Him.

We value "tradition" and the gift of music - our main Sunday service and our monthly Choral Evensong service is led by a robed choir and organ. And we enjoy "variety" - a contemporary music group leads our more informal Family Services and times of evening worship.  Our "worship style" is intentionally varied - but it is rooted in Scripture and focused on our Saviour.

Applying the teachings of Jesus to our lives in such complicated times, is a challenge.  That is why we seek to keep Prayer at the heart of all we seek to do.  We pray regularly for our troubled world, our country and its leaders, for the church, for our town and for individuals.  We are grateful for the strong relationships with the other churches in our town and the partnership across the seven parishes that make up our Flagstaff Family of Churches.   We are linked with various charities and mission groups - locally, nationally and internationally.  Some of our key local partners are Ashby Street Pastors, Christians Against Poverty, Ashby Foodbank and Ashby Youth for Christ. We are keenly interested in the work of Arab World Ministries, Christian Aid, Open Doors, and France Mission. We also have strong and supportive links with the church in Le Pré-Saint-Gervais in the suburbs of Paris.

Fellowship and Friendship are important to us: We pray together and we play together; we arrange flowers together, ring bells, eat meals (including haggis!), barn dance, sing, play skittles and thoroughly enjoy being part of a church ‘family'.

Whatever brings you to St Helen's, we pray that you will feel the warmth, joy and peace that Jesus Christ brings.  And remember - we are here for you!

Blackfordby: St Margaret

Main Street Blackfordby Derby

Welcome to St Margaret's Church here in the village of Blackfordby.

Worship has taken place on this site for 1000 years and the present building replaced an ancient Chapel of Ease.
The church is built of grey sandstone found locally for the greater part of the work. It has a roof of slate tiles, graded from the apex. St Margaret's is an example of the early English or early decorated style of architecture. The structure is about ninety feet in length and thirty feet wide at the nave.
The stout tower is capped with a broach spire rising to one hundred feet. The blackened stonework bears silent witness to the smoke pollution of the past, caused by the burning of salt in the clay pipe glazing process. This was carried out in many local factories whose tall chimneys have long since been demolished.

St Margaret's Church stands on lofty ground which commands an extensive prospect from Cannock Chase to Charnwood Forest, embracing in its range no less than Twenty-five village churches and the spires of Lichfield Cathedral.
The present church building was opened for worship on Wednesday 27th October 1858.
